Church… check! Reception… check! Dress…check! Attendant’s outfits…check! Religious or Civil Ceremony? The debate was on! My maternal grandfather, the minister, was the person I dreamt of as a little girl asking me and my husband to kiss and make our marriage official. He passed away when I was ten years old so, at the time, I never gave my wedding and who would marry us much thought. So when my fiancée asked if his long time family friend, the local judge could officiate over our wedding I was a little torn. I had always wanted a full religious ceremony, but after thinking who could fill in for grandpa, I was having a hard time coming up with names. After weeks of thinking I decided that a civil ceremony wouldn’t be such a bad thing. I have talked with the local judge and we are meeting with him this month to discuss what kind of ceremony we would like because I still want to have some religious aspects in our vows.
Photographer and DJ were the next items on my agenda. My fiancée suggested a photographer he knew and after some investigative work I found out that he was also the photographer my cousin had just used for her wedding. When finding a photographer and or videographer you want someone who is going to get all the shots you want, but is stealth like to do so. I never once remember seeing the photographer at my cousins wedding: unlike her videographer who was in your face every ten seconds… very intrusive! So with a visit to Mark Griffen’s studio in Penn Yan NY, At Your Service Photography was booked as our photographer. I might be lucky or at least knowledgeable about DJ’s because in high school I worked for a radio station, and in college I worked part time for a DJ service. I knew what I was looking for in a DJ and all the local DJ services were not offering me what I wanted. I wanted someone fun, but professional, and someone who could have a conversation with the devil himself! After numerous bridal shows and getting business cards from all kinds of DJ’s I was pleasantly surprised to walk in to a bridal show and be welcomed by a nicely dressed DJ who had an elaborate set-up versus a box of CD’s and his boom box! I met with Ryan Bombard of Tunetown Productions. After talking with Ryan my mom and I were convinced that he was worth meeting with to discuss some particulars. We met with Ryan and I knew that he was the right man for the job!
With 16 months to go you might be thinking, why not just have the wedding this October? So much of the wedding is planned already! Planning your dream wedding is a marathon not a sprint! Stay tuned for more wedding planning… next time flowers, cake, table arrangements, save the date cards, and attendant gifts!
