Don’t be a Bridezilla!

Even as this site was created for the sole purpose of alleiviating wedding anxiety, it seems that sometimes even we can forget just how stressful planning a wedding can be. With few exceptions, the tendency is for the bride to be the one who suffers most from this pressure. As the budget soars and you become so bogged down with every little detail it can feel like there’s not enough wine in the Finger Lakes to get you through this. Let’s step back for a moment and examine just why this happy occasion can be the cause of so many ulcers.
What is the worst scenario you can think of that could possibly arrise on your wedding day… The wrong flowers? The photographer not showing up? The groom not showing up? If that last one is an issue you’ve got bigger problems than I can help you with here. If you keep your expectations realistic then there is a better chance that you won’t flip out over something that really isn’t too big a deal. The truth is things will go wrong on your wedding day. In all likelyhood it will be details so small only you will notice, if even you notice. The question becomes how will you react if things go wrong. This is where the whole idea of the ‘bridezilla’ comes from. This is your wedding day. ‘Wedding day you’ can not be ‘wedding planner you’ anymore. You have switched roles from producer to lead actress. The lead actress doesn’t stop the production because it’s the wrong champagne; she realizes that only she knows it’s the wrong champagne and the show goes on.
Knowing how you will handle it if things go wrong will help to relieve stress now. I’m not talking about knowing what you will do in any one specific scenario. I intend you to seriously think about how you will let whatever bad might happen affect you. You can’t control everything that happens at your wedding, but you have complete and total control over your reaction to those situations. Be the lead actress who doesn’t let anything trip her up. Decide right now that you won’t let anything ruin your wedding. See how easy that was? You have just become the master of your emotions.
